Window Art Review

This is the best Klutz book we've tried to date. This 'window art' really works and the end results are stunning. My children aged 4-9 have all managed to produce some fabulous designs either by copying the outlines in the book or freestyling their own pictures and words.
The bottles of paint are easy to use. You just squeeze and the paint comes out like icing. The outline doesn't even have to be that neat as the interior coloured paint you use covers all but the highest black outline.
The colours are vibrant and the sparkly paint is really sparkly once dried. The colours look great straight away but dry to amazing shades. You can mix colours or leave patterns and spots in your pictures.
We have got through a lot of paint but you can buy extra huge supply kits. Silver and Gold outlining paint and glow in the dark paint is also available in this range (US Klutz site).
It is a fairly expensive hobby but the children get so much enjoyment out of it and the end results are very display worthy.
You can stick your finished results to plastic and glass surfaces: windows, mirrors, fish bowls, plant pots, drinking glasses (not washable though)...
Three plastic page enclosing covers are suppled with the book to create or copy your designs on. We've not had any problem with pulling the finished art off the plastic. Thicker layers of paint do need slightly longer than the 1 day drying time but most designs are dry within 1 day.
The set does advise waiting a while between doing the outline in black and colouring in but we find half an hour is sufficient. my daughter did fold a completed design over by accident once but we managed to unpeel it carefully.
For younger children you may have to do the more intricate outlining yourself but my 4 year old can perfectly manage the colouring in. He has even produced the best window art elephants to date.
The only downside is this is a really addictive hobby.
I have bought completed 'window art' like this before but I am really looking forward to creating some Christmas Santa and snowflake designs myself.

Our 9 year old daughter saw this product and knew that she wanted it. The price was right, and so was her decision. She spends quality alone time doing Window Art independently. It's practically a meditation for her, as she finds peace and calm in the method. Our windows and mirrors are all quite happy. Our next purchase will be the refills!

We bought this for our 9 year old daughter for her birthday. I must say that the folks at Klutz have done it again. Our daughter has made several of the different patterns and they have turned out beautifully!I would highly recommend this to anyone who has an arts and crafts lover in their house! One tip: to more easily remove the finished product from the plastic sheet, put it in the fridge for a couple of minutes. This helps to keep your creation from sticking to itself while you are peeling it off the plastic.

I bought this for my 15 yr old daughter because she loves to draw and she also has a not-so-appropriate tendency to sprinkle her things with graffiti. I thought this kit might give her an acceptable way to "draw" on her things. She definitely took to the idea, creating decorative frills for her bedroom windows and mirrors. She also got creative and made personalized clings for all of our water bottles so we could tell them apart. Within a month she had used up all of the inks and was asking for more. If you have a child or teen who enjoys drawing and likes to decorate their stuff, this is a great gift idea.
